The nine Fellows chosen for the inaugural cohort of the Pulitzer Center’s StoryReach U.S. initiative represent a diverse mix of regions, backgrounds, formats, and experiences. They will spend a whole year reporting in-depth stories and exploring innovative engagement activities that expand the reach and impact of their reporting.
This initiative is a response to the current challenges faced by local and regional outlets across the United States, including the rise in misinformation and erosion of trust in the media. At the same time, we are inspired by the many local outlets that are placing audiences at the center of their editorial strategies and finding creative ways to engage with them beyond publication and political bubbles.
This reporting and engagement lab supports freelance and staff reporters paired with local newsroom partners who value collaboration and audience engagement as much as powerful enterprise reporting. The goal of this initiative is to provide an exploratory space for Fellows to innovate with peers and the Pulitzer Center team on high-impact projects that combine breakthrough reporting and effective public outreach.
