This reporting project examines how Peru's poverty-targeting algorithm impacts beneficiaries' eligibility for social program subsidies. Despite its goal to assist the most vulnerable, the system's flaws lead to significant exclusion errors, leaving many in need without support. This investigation delves into the algorithm's methodology, its impact on public policy, and the human cost of these errors.
Through data analysis and interviews with affected individuals and experts, this project will shed light on the unintended consequences of technological systems in social welfare. It aims to spark critical discussions on technology’s role in addressing inequality in Peru.
