Ask Me Anything: Ocean Reporting Network Fellowships

Are you interested in reporting on ocean issues? Would you like to receive a year-long fellowship that includes financial support for your reporting project, a community of peers, mentorship, and training opportunities?

This is what you can expect from a fellowship with the Pulitzer Center’s Ocean Reporting Network (ORN). 

Join us on August 27, 2025, to learn more about joining the third (2026) cohort of our Ocean Reporting Network Fellowships. At this virtual meeting, Pulitzer Center Ocean Editor Jessica Aldred will be joined by 2025 ORN Fellow Jenn Thornhill Verma to discuss the details of the current call for applications as well as to answer questions about the Fellowship experience. 

Each year, the ORN recruits up to 10 journalists from anywhere in the world to report on the many pressures faced by marine biodiversity and coastal communities. We encourage applications from the Global South and from communities that are underrepresented in the media.

While we welcome projects on a broad range of issues, this year we are also placing special emphasis on certain topics. We are seeking to support at least two projects on transparency and governance in relation to ocean issues. This includes projects that follow the money across borders; shed light on opaque and harmful supply chains; or report on legislation, business practices, and organizations that exacerbate the lack of accountability and transparency of ocean practices.
