Workshop on Cultural Management Research for Artists II

Jorge Horacio Gutiérrez

La Baulera
San Miguel de Tucumán

Project Summary

La Baulera, a partnership, proposes to set up a Cultural Complex, in the premises of the former Abasto Market of the city of San Miguel de Tucumán. This project would be totaled in its design with a mini-civic commercial Center and a Center of Contemporary Art. We have begun with the idea of opening a cultural exchange space to develop the necessary skills not only for the individually creative exercise but also for communal responsibility, because we believe that both art and solidarity unmistakably result from social smartness.
The previous paragraph refer to the general objective of the “Cultural Complex, El Abasto” a work we are currently undergoing and yet, has the official filing before the city council of San Miguel de Tucumán.

The Contemporary Art Center is an organization that was created by a partnership that carries out activities on production, training and independent artists’ and communal cultural management. These activities are held at the headquarters of LA BAULERA, in 1462 General Paz Street in San Miguel de Tucumán city.

Annual budget and usual funding sources.
LA BAULERA. The Contemporary Art Center is a small-size organization (chattels: 2 computers, a slide projector, a library with books on art and aesthetics). So far, the organization does not have its own fixed monthly income. However, the members do pay a monthly fee. The organization works mainly thanks to the time and work given by its member who do several tasks as well as some management in connection with the projects under discussion. Nevertheless, it has recently been granted two subsidies. They are:
-300$ (three hundred pesos) monthly, by “La Caja Nacional de Ahorro y Seguro” to pay the rent,
-15.000$ (fifteen thousand pesos) payable in installments* for the equipment of its showroom of “amazing arts”, granted by “El Instituto Nacional de Teatro” .

Project information.

Description of the problems that could be solved with the project
With this project, “La Baulera” tries to define urban and architectural space design aspects, funding and management, cultural tourism, museum science, the management of showroom for the “amazing arts”, the publication of informative and analysis study magazines, research and the creation of archives, educational programs linked with schools, art viewers training and all those other subjects related to the great problem of cultural management. We want to deal with a wider range of cultural problems in the Cultural Center “El Abasto” though, we have already been dealing with some of them in our present headquarters.

Project Objectives
The activity project that LA BAULERA presents before The Foundation Antorchas is aimed at having an available space to confront ideas on the various problems that cultural management imply in the size of the project-framework of THE CULTURAL COMPLEX “EL ABASTO”, which is its authorship.

Outcome and expected benefits.
LA BAULERA hopes to broaden its knowledge, enrich its strategies and update its cultural management practices which are a little out of date in our province, due to the fact that they are mainly focused on the production of shows and disregard the economic impact that the stimuli to cultural products consumption, distribution and production make
.
