El ingenio (The sugar mill) is a project created and supported
by visual artists from Tucumán. We have opened a space (physical
and intellectual) for independent action, destined to favour the
production and circulation of work, and the interchange of artistic
experience. We are keen on stimulating the autonomy of ideas in
the visual arts, in the very place where we produce them. We generate
and develop strategies as a work force, in a cooperative context,
that is beneficial for the creative process of individuals and of
the group, as well as instrumental to drawing the attention of the
community to art issues.
The ingenio (The sugar mill) was founded on December 9, 2000. Since
then we have organized different activities and projects in Argentina
and abroad.
2001
The group that funded El Ingenio managed the exhibition rooms
at La Subasta. They held their first group show and organized different
exhibitions.
- From the second semester onwards they were allotted their own
premises, thanks to steps taken by P. Casal, a Tucumán collector.
2002
- They took part in "Colectivos y Asociados" Madrid,
Spain- Curator: Eva Gristein from Argentina.
- They took part in "Miradas de hoy" Tucumán,
Argentina Curator: Jorge Figueroa.
- "El Ingenio salta" Salta, Argentina a
collective show.
Project: Exhibition room workshop El Ingenio
Our proposal is to recycle the basement of a building, so as to
count with a space of our own for the production of our work and
to give out information on our work and on the work of guest artists.
Our project also involves the organization of a multi media archive
of artists and their work, catalogues, specific magazines and texts.
It also contemplates keeping records of activities, and a data bank
on courses, grants, exhibitions, etc. related to the arts.
