Mirella Mursi
(fine artist, graphic designer)

What is, in your opinion, a professional artist?
... it is the person whose life motto is art.
Art as a means to communicate his or her vision of life. As a means of communication and expression.
Art is seen as a personal search, that prevails and develops along the years and does not follow any passing fad. It is the person who truly believes in what he or she does and does not respond to any art market demands.

What's the relation between art and money in your work?
... at the moment, it is something I have not solved yet. A year ago, I got a scholarship from an image centre in Italy and there I developed part of my work freely.
Today , I cannot live on art and that hinders my going forward and continuing my work but I am looking for a new context to go on. On the other hand, I am pretty much aware of the influences of the artistic market, mainly among Argentineans. I reckon, today’s art represents power and does not confront it, and that, I believe, has to do with money.

How do you resolve the conditions of visibility of your work in the context you work in?
I do not have a concrete guideline, it depends on the project.

How would you define cultural tourism?
The term culture has a broad meaning, it could define the Argentine culture referring to the customs and habits of its society. Or it could very well define what is going on in the artistic field, what is being created and produced in Argentina.

How would you define culture shock?
The change from a culture to another, from a way of conceiving things to another.

What's the relationship between control and chance in your work?
That is a good question, I like it. I usually try to think about the topic I would like to deal with and then I start a kind of nourishment with images, for example I read about that topic, look and listen to different things a lot. Then I try to forget all that stuff and I start to paint and through a trial and error process I build the work. After that comes the critical part, in which I rescue the features I am interested in and I begin to think of new elements.
It is a kind of work that develops along the way, I guess, it is a mixture of both, chance and control.
Anyway, I think my best works did not come out of a rational analysis at all.
