Res' artwork is, perhaps, a way of looking for transitory truths through photography.
In 2000, as part of the project for the Meeting for Confrontation of Artwork organised by Trama, he planned to make a video, To defeat or to die, which aimed to relate the attitude towards the West of the old inhabitants of the pampa with that of a group of political priso-ners hunger striking at that time.
To do so, he would project a series of slides
of his work NECAH 1879 to the prisoners, an essay of 24 photos made during the military
campaign that ended up with the extermination of the indians, and the same amount of pictures taken by Res in the same locations but in 1996. These last ones, which include a letter in each image, build when shown in a certain order- the slogan from 1873 supposedly said by Cacique Calfucurá: "No entregar Carhué al huinca" - do not give up our territory to the western people.
A video camara would record the images projected and the context; this registration would be edited with the audio track taken while the
political prisoners of "La Tablada" debated about what they had just seen.
"To defeat or to die" couldn't be accomplished due to the obstacles offered by the prison system and because the health of the prisoners
worsened and they had to be hospitalized.
