Water. Some time ago, water irrupted into my work. Maybe it happened while I was trying to draw on a misty mirror, or through the latent image of my son scribbling on the floor with some spilled drops of water. The point is that one day I found myself trying to draw on water: a vain, absurd attempt. What water did permit me was to catch images on paper or on the floor, even for a few minutes. Thus the series of works that originated from this deal with a "now you see it-now you don't" quality of the image and from the primitive attempt at scribbling.
...and water (resounding-serene word) spills. At the beginning I can only keep images of water overflowing a container, of my feet getting wet...
Action gains protagonism and drawing becomes a pretext. Up till now I have been showing the outcomes of given actions, including the disappearance of the drawing, its dissolution, as an action. That is why I feel that the moment has come when to put my body, to present the action, are completely necessary, consistent steps in the development of my work process.
Self-portrait. That's me trying to keep my balance. But I cannot help spilling...and I spill together with the water.
In Derramarme I propose an action. I am running. My hands are firmly holding this container filled with water. I'm doing my best not to spill it. The tension that the effort implies imprints a dramatic hue on each drop that falls and the floor stands for a mute witness of the unavoidable: the spilled water leaves a trace behind me.
