Cielo
Teórico - Estética y Pensamiento en Artes Visuales
(Theoretical Heaven visual art thinking and aesthetics.) is
an independent space, with the fundamental purpose of bringing thinking,
theoretical reflection and a critical attitude closer to the intellectual
development around the active and vital art production. This primary
objective stems from the local need for criticism, reflection and
a theoretical construction for artistic creation. Cielo Teórico
affords the chance to cross art theory, philosophy and aesthetics
throught thinking and the generation of ideas, and the production
of contemporary art, in a specific physical place, but above everything,
in a key ideological space in Cordoba city, Argentina.
Cielo Teórico is structured as follows: Library, Seminars
and Courses, Open Programs and C Archive. These initiatives held
in the space aim at:
Providing access to up to date information to make it
easier to learn about work and artists, and to material that construes
a historical and critical look on the development of art in our city.
To propose subjects and issues that provide dialogue and active
debate of ideas and intellectual and artistic exchange with the general
public, and with the cultural actors in particular, through the contact
and acquaintance with artists, critics, thinkers, theoreticians of
different places.
To publish theoretical texts, around active intellectual
work, through various editions: the outcome of seminars, interventions
in spaces that foster theoretical activity, a systematic research
on art problems.
To establish opportunities for theoretical reflection and production
in direct link with artistic production and with all relevant aspects
of art through seminars, workshops, and group research, etc.
To promote a critical conscience, autonomous thinking and creativity,
and intellectual and artistic commitment of artists and/or anybody
related to art.
Project for the structure of an Exhibition Room in Córdoba
city
The space would host exhibitions by young Cordoba artists, an artist
or artists who live in other Argentine cities and a foreign artist
or artists.
Within a 10-11 months annual period, the proposal would include
2 foreign artists / 2 from the rest of the country / 6-7 from Cordoba.
Foundation
In the context of the recovery of cultural activity that has taken
place in Cordoba city during the last few years, stemming from alternative
private and state groups and places, the aims are to dedicate exhibiting
spaces to foreign shows or shows that come from Buenos Aires with
work by well-known artists.
Though we celebrate these changes, nevertheless, the need to establish
activities that point to new habits and new ways of relationship
between artists, cultural spaces, managers, critics, intellectuals,
and society at large, so that the city is not only a virgin recipient
of artistic expressions but establishes connections and parallel
communication between the actors of cultural activity (whether citizens
of this city or not).
Therefore we suggest to structure a space and activities that generate
situations to that end, and a program of exhibitions that considers:
1- An exhibition space for Cordoba artists, a choice selection
of artists, work, backed by curatorial work for a period of several
months previous to the exhibition.
2- Invitations to an artist or artists resident in other cities
of Argentina, selected through visits to the studios in different
cities in the country.
3- Invitations to a foreign artist or to foreign artists, through
institutions that provide the subsidy required to cover the costs.
General Objectives
NEW LOCAL ART EXPRESSIONS: To establish a space receptive
to the local new art proposals (such a space does not exist so far)
SOCIAL VALIDATION AND INSTITUTIONAL PROPAGATION: To support
these options through social validation and the propagation a prestigious
cultural institution offers.
ARTISTS-ART WORLD MEDIA SOCIETY DIALOGUE: To prepare
the scenario where the interrelation and dialogue of the artists
- between themselves and with other actors of the art world
media and with society at large.
FLUENT INTERRELATION WITH OTHER CITIES / GOING OUT AND LEARNING
ABOUT WHAT IS OUTSIDE: The propagation of art in other cities in
the country with a support that goes beyond the odd exhibition;
and the knowledge here of what happens in other cities, in a dialogue
exchange situation.
THE DISCURSIVE AND CONVERSATIONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH ARTISTS
in other cities of Argentina and abroad. To change the passive reception
attitude of the art "that arrives", for a dialogue
habit, and for a deeper acknowledgement of the works and ideas by
foreign artists.
HABIT AND PERDURABILITY IN SOCIAL MEMORY: Within a certain
flexibility in activities and objectives, to act systematically
and methodologically to acquire the habit of seeing and expounding,
to aim to a lasting social memory.
TO CONSTRUE HISTORY: Through documentation aimed at construing
a history of artistic expressions (of works and artists), of thought
(speeches, ideas and dialogues), and of events. As much as the propagation
of these transcending their eventual, temporal and geographic character.
